The Weekly Adoption Shout Out #WASO Week 203

Welcome to #WASO week 203. This week we have an optional theme of ‘HOLIDAYS‘.
What is your experience of holidays with your family? We know that for some people holidays and time away from school can calm things down and for others it is a difficult time with changes of routine etc.
Please link in your blogs and we will read and share.

Free images for your blog

Photos – we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again “Use them on your blog!”

Quite a while ago, we wrote a post about the importance of using images on your blog, and well, we stand by that. But we know not everyone has a camera phone, or photographic skills, so today I’m going to tell you a way of getting images on your site that have been taken by some photographers who have serious skillz. And, they are free AND the credit is already included, so you don’t need to gain permission (which you DO have to do if you take a photo from anywhere else, Google Images included!). sarah meets camila

We learnt this little tip after attending the Britmums Live! conference last year. By the way, if you’ve not given much thought to Britmums Live! then do, they have some really good workshops and speakers where you can pick up some great tips. And you might get to meet someone you really admire…

Anyway, we discovered that Getty Images – you know the amazing stock photographers who provide images for use in all sorts of places – have a royalty free section. This means you can use some of their images without having to pay a royalty charge to do so. It’s especially for bloggers and non-commercial use.

Not only that, but they’re high resolution (good quality) and easily searchable too, with an enormous amount of photos covering an enormous number of topics. 50 million images in fact. Yes for actual real.

Here’s the link: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/CreativeImages/RoyaltyFree

And it gets better. I was going to write a post with instructions on how to embed the image into your post. That means transferring the code from Getty Images to your blog, so that you don’t have to faff with downloading the image, and then uploading to your own blog, you just paste the code into the ‘text’ or ‘html’ option on your blog.
However, Getty Images has done that for me here, so I’m not going to repeat it. Just click on that link and the instructions are there for all to see:

Want something school based?

Or maybe you want something to depict the tough days?

Whatever the scenario or theme of your post, you’re sure to find something to accompany your words.

Weekly Adoption Shout Out #WASO Week 83

Oh yes, it’s #WASO time…

waso 83Welcome to Week 83 (yes, really) of the Weekly Adoption Shout Out. This week we’d love for you to link up any posts you’ve published recently, and any you’ve found elsewhere that you like. We do have a theme for this week, but it’s always optional, so if you can’t write about ‘SHARING’, we still invite you to join in and link up.

The way it works – you paste in the URL of your blog post into the form below. Add your email address too (just so we can contact you in the event of any issues with your link), and then it appears in the list on The Adoption Social. We read as many as we can, then we share them on Facebook and Twitter.

What you get out of it – well, hopefully more readers, new readers, and readers that can empathise and support and understand. Not only is it free publicity, but it’s also a chance to become part of a supportive online community.

Here’s the linky:

Weekly Adoption Shout Out #WASO Week 74

WASO 74Friday already, this week’s gone quick – how about yours?
And of course because it’s Friday, it’s time for the Weekly Adoption Shout Out aka #WASO.

Last week we had one of our best ever weeks, with heaps of you linking up, many on our theme of ‘Forever’. If you were one of those who linked, then THANK YOU! If you read, or shared any of the posts, then THANK YOU TOO! And if you didn’t, perhaps you might be able to this week instead? I hope so.

This week we’re theme free, so please just link up your best posts. If you’ve found another blog and you think it ought to be part of #WASO, then either let us know, or contact the blog owner and give them a nudge.

If you’re new here, then please consider adding our badge to your site, to let everyone know about the shout out:

The Adoption Social Times 2

It’s time for our second monthly round-up of all our posts on The Adoption Social.

Thanks to everyone that has read, commented on or shared a post this last month. We’ve had several messages of support and some lovely feedback from both contributors and readers alike. If you have any ideas for posts that you’d like to see on here, then please do drop us a line at theadoptionsocial@gmail.com.

request for tips and advice#WASO
As you might have seen we published a round-up of #WASO posts this month with both of us choosing 3 of our favourite linked posts. We hope to do this every month, to try to give a bit more support, exposure and traffic to some of the bloggers that take part.

Forthcoming themes for March are:
7 March – Friendships
21 March – Recipes – and why they’re important to your family

What’s new?
We launched another new linky. We like to have several on the go at one time, but we know not everyone has time to write a new post for each linky. So ‘From The Archives’ is a new opportunity to link up an old post. Hopefully this’ll mean more people visit some of your older posts that might have missed out on some blog love. If you come across a post you’ve not seen before, I’m sure the blogger would appreciate your comments. We’ll alternate between this new linky and ‘The Things We Do’, so the schedule will look like this.
The Things We Do – 3rd, 17th, 31st March
From The Archives – 10th, 24th March

Britmums Round-Up
We’ve both been avid readers of the Britmums Adoption and Fostering Round-Up since it began, edited by Maryam Lane. In recent times Maryam extended her family and both Sarah and I helped out with editing the round-up when Maryam was unable. Sadly, she’s since decided to step down, but Sarah and I have jointly taken on the role of Editor. Sarah’s done a smashing job this month – here’s her round-up. We’re trying our hardest to include blogs that both link up to #WASO and our other linkys, and blogs that don’t take part in them. So rest assured that even if you don’t link up, we’ll do our best to share your blog in the Britmums round-up. If you know of some fantastic blogs – do let us know so we can include them.

And here’s a final round up of some of our posts this month…

We published an anonymous post from an adopter who often hears suggestions that she’s crazy. What do you think? Would you do it all again?

One adoptive dad is concerned about his relationship with his wife and ask for help in making time for them as a couple.

We met some more bloggers – Family of Five, Grey Street, Our Dear Daughter and Adopt and Keep Calm.

We received several supportive comments on this emotional piece about post adoption support. Have you experienced the same?

AProblemSharedrequestIf you have any posts that you’d like to contribute, then please do send them into us at theadoptionsocial@gmail.com. We’re particularly looking for general posts for ‘The Blog’ – you can write whatever you’d like in this section, and also ‘Handy Tips’ pieces. We also love hearing your feedback, so do get in touch.

Weekly Adoption Shout Out #WASO Week 55

CYMERA_20140220_180021Hello again, welcome back to another week of The Weekly Adoption Shout Out. We hope that you’ve all had a good week…for those of you who’ve had the kids at home for half term, how’s it gone?

This week’s optional theme is ‘The Work of my Child/Children’, so if it is half term where you are, perhaps you’ve been creative and can share some of your crafty/foody makes? Maybe your child has written a poem? We know some of you home-educate so perhaps you’d like to share some of your child’s work? Whatever it is, we’re very much looking forward to seeing it…

We’d like to thank each and every one of you that has linked up, shared or commented on either #WASO directly, or on one of the blogs who’ve joined in. When we started this linky, we never realised just how popular it would become and how much of a community would grow around it. That’s all down to you  – well done for being a part of something so amazing and supportive.

All of our previous #WASOs are still here on The Adoption Social for you too see, just click on Weekly Adoption Shout Out up there near the top. You can click here for last week’s #WASO for which the theme was ‘A Day in The Life’…do check it out, you can still share your favourite and comment on them too.

This week we have no theme, but as we’re now a year into the Weekly Adoption Shout Out, next week will be: ‘A Year On’. Interpret it however you like – perhaps how things have changed in the last year, what you hope for a year from now. Remember that’s next week’s theme but if you want to write about it now, you could schedule your post in time to link up. Not sure how? Check out our post on scheduling here.

In the meantime, add your links below. And as usual, share as many as you can and show those bloggers some comment love. We’re off to celebrate with birthday cake!
