#taspic – New Monthly Photo Challenge

We’ve decide to introduce a little bit of photographic fun into your lives.

Some of you have been very dedicated to #takingcare100 and also the #FO5photo challenge was a lot of fun too. So to join in we are bringing you our own monthly picture challenge. A one word or one phrase challenge for the whole month.

So what to begin with????

In an age when the “selfie” is everything, yet our own anonymity and that of our children, is so important, we need a different way to represent ourselves.I’m a big of a fan of the feet photo.  So instead of a #selfie we take a #feeties .

It’s very simple, just direct your phone towards your feet and snap.

So this month (rest of April and also all of May) we would love to see as many pictures as possible of where your feet find themselves, where they take you, how good they look, possibly a favourite shoe, or are your feet clad for a special occassion/job/journey. What are your feet standing on? Finding different backgrounds for your feet can be fun.

Please share your pictures with the #TASpic and #Feeties.taspic

You don’t need to be on Instagram to join in, share your pictures on Twitter with the hashtag too.

HOWEVER for those Instagram lovers out there, using popular hashtags can be a great way to:-

a) gain additional followers.

b) be inspired by what others are doing.

So for this type of picture here are some hashtags to use.

Oh and if you just want to share a picture with us and the community, even one that’s not related to the challenge, be sure to use the hashtag #taspic

Photos – we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again “Use them on your blog!”

Quite a while ago, we wrote a post about the importance of using images on your blog, and well, we stand by that. But we know not everyone has a camera phone, or photographic skills, so today I’m going to tell you a way of getting images on your site that have been taken by some photographers who have serious skillz. And, they are free AND the credit is already included, so you don’t need to gain permission (which you DO have to do if you take a photo from anywhere else, Google Images included!). sarah meets camila

We learnt this little tip after attending the Britmums Live! conference last year. By the way, if you’ve not given much thought to Britmums Live! then do, they have some really good workshops and speakers where you can pick up some great tips. And you might get to meet someone you really admire…

Anyway, we discovered that Getty Images – you know the amazing stock photographers who provide images for use in all sorts of places – have a royalty free section. This means you can use some of their images without having to pay a royalty charge to do so. It’s especially for bloggers and non-commercial use.

Not only that, but they’re high resolution (good quality) and easily searchable too, with an enormous amount of photos covering an enormous number of topics. 50 million images in fact. Yes for actual real.

Here’s the link: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/CreativeImages/RoyaltyFree

And it gets better. I was going to write a post with instructions on how to embed the image into your post. That means transferring the code from Getty Images to your blog, so that you don’t have to faff with downloading the image, and then uploading to your own blog, you just paste the code into the ‘text’ or ‘html’ option on your blog.
However, Getty Images has done that for me here, so I’m not going to repeat it. Just click on that link and the instructions are there for all to see:

Want something school based?

Or maybe you want something to depict the tough days?

Whatever the scenario or theme of your post, you’re sure to find something to accompany your words.

Adding a photo to your blog on Blogger

A few weeks ago, we talked about the importance of adding photos to your blog, the week before we gave you some tips on how to obscure them. And we’ve had some feedback to say these were useful. But we’ve also had some feedback from others who don’t know how to get those lovely photos on your blogs so this week we’ll look at how to add a photo to a blog post in Blogger. If you’re using WordPress, then check out our post next Wednesday.

To add a photo to a Blogger blog post:

Write your post as usual. Up in the tool bar (that’s where your fonts, font size and colour, link and other options are), there is a little icon that looks like a picture – click on it.

You’ll see a screen like this: Selecting a file in Blogger

Click on ‘choose files’ then navigate to where your photo is saved. It’ll then upload, as above, and you’ll see your image (just like you can see my Egg and Spoon photo here). We’re assuming here that the image you want to add has been previously stored on your computer, and is saved as a normal file.

If you click on your image, it’ll highlight with a blue box around it. Click the blue button at the bottom there that says ‘Add selected’ and it’ll pop straight into your blog post.

Once it’s in your post, you can click on it like I have in the image below, and you’ll see that extra toolbar pop up – here you can change the size, whether it sits in the middle of the post, or either side, you can add tags (through the properties bit) and you can add a caption.Editing your image in blogger

Once you’ve finished, you can click anywhere else in the post and continue writing, or publish as normal.

I hope you’ll find this tutorial straightforward, but do comment or email us if you have any questions. We’re happy to help if we can…

Last week The Boy’s Behaviour shared her memory from a New Year’s Day walk on the beach:
Throwing stones

Where are all your memories going? Don’t let them just disappear into thin air. Celebrate them – tell us about them! Let us celebrate with you.
Did your child get a great school report this week? Maybe your parent did something super-cool and you want to brag about it? Did you do a great bit of parenting this week?

Write it, prose it, snap it, share it.

This is a week long linky open from Monday morning to Sunday evening, and you can link more than once. Simply click below to add your details. Don’t forget you could also tweet your photo memories and we’ll pin and re-share them too. Use the hashtag #MemoryBox when sharing on Facebook and Twitter.
